Land gazette for NCR ownership safe keeping

BEKENU: The purpose of land gazette under Section 6 of the Land Code is to ensure the ownership of Native Customary Right (NCR) land is not to be easily transferable and encroached by other parties.
Sibuti Member of Parliament, Ahmad Lai Bujang said the gazette is as proof of ownership to, NCR land and can be passed directly to the children and grandchildren in the future as a very valuable asset.
“The land gazette under Section 6 of this land is important because it is a precautionary approach to the any intrusion or clear evidence that our NCR land was legally ours.
“We must remember at present and in future we cannot say ‘that plot belongs to my father, or that is the land of my grand parents’ Everything requires a clear and legitimate document, “he said at the handing over of the gazette under Section 6 of the Land Code to people of Kampung and Tiris, here, yesterday.
In the meantime, Ahmad Lai also reminded those who wanted their NCR land to be measured to make application to the Lands and Survey Department (LSD).
He also thanked the residents and land owners for their cooperation in the process of their NCR measurement all this while.
“I would like to thank residents for their cooperation to the process of land measurement and I hope such cooperation will continue to be closely maintained in the years to come, “he said.
Meanwhile, LSD had done the perimeter survey involving 2,229 hectares; however only 616 hectares had been handed over in this initial programme and the rest will be handed over within this near future.
Also present at the event were Lambir Assemblyman, Ripin Lamat, LSD Miri Superintendent Unus Tambi, community leaders and local dignitaries.
