Presentation of LASIS at FIG (Federation Internationale des Geometres or International Federation of Surveyors)
Our Director, Datu Sudarsono Osman was invited to deliver a paper entitled Land And Survey Information System (LASIS) : An Integrated Land Administration and Land Management System in Sarawak at the 2009 FIG One Day International Open Symposium which carried the theme Progressing towards u-Cadastre on 15 October 2009 in Kuala Lumpur.
In his presentation, the Director shared with the distinguished speakers and delegates of the Symposium the initiatives and the rationale behind the implementation of LASIS that enabled the Land and Survey Department to leverage on information communication technology (ICT) in ensuring good governance in land administration and land management as well as attaining sustainable development in land resources. The rewards of LASIS implementation are Integrated System, Inspired People, Innovated Processes and Improved Service Delivery.
The highlight of the his presentation was a walk-through of the system integration capabilities offered by LASIS which captured the attention of the audience especially the President of FIG, Professor Stig Enemark of Denmark. The opportunity to participate in the Symposium enabled the Department to collaborate with and contribute to the global community of land professionals.

Following an impressive presentation on LASIS by the Director of Lands and Surveys Sarawak, Datu Sudarsono Osman during the FIG Commission No. 7 Open Symposium in October 2009 at Kuala Lumpur, the President of FIG, Professor Stig Enemark invited him to present another paper on Land Administration and Land Management in the International Congress in Sydney, Australia.
The XXIV FIG International Congress was held at Sydney, Australia from 11th to 16th April 2010 with the theme, “Facing Challenges - Building the Capacity”. The International Federation of Surveyors, FIG is an international NGO whose purpose is to support international collaboration and cooperation for the progress of surveying in all fields and applications such as spatial information management, positioning and measurement, cadastre and land management, spatial planning and development, valuation and the management of real estate and construction economics management.

The Congress which turned out to be the biggest ever was attended by more than 2,200 participants from 100 countries, including United States, Russia, Australia, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Norway, France, China, Japan, Denmark, Germany, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Romania, Argentina and Brazil.
Our Director, Datu Sudarsono Osman delivered a paper entitled Land Administration, Management and Spatial Information. During his session, he shared the Department’s experience in administering and managing land in Sarawak using LASIS. He also demonstrated the capabilities of LASIS as an integrated land system and highlighted the integration with a walk-through of the system. His presentation was received enthusiastically by the participants.
