Dept launches latest NCR land survey
KAPIT: The Kapit Lands and Surveys Department recently launched the latest phase of its native customary rights (NCR) land perimeter survey at Rumah Enting Nanga Banyau. Superintendent Alfian Bawi said this was eighth perimeter survey in the district under the government’s new NCR initiative.
The survey would involve some 10 longhouses along the lower Baleh river from Nanga Bawai to Nanga Mujong.
“For the purpose of the survey, the department is targeting to survey 27,361.36 acres of NCR land,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hulu Rajang Member of Parliament, Datuk Billy Abit Joo, who officiated at the event, called on longhouse folk to settle boundary or land disputes amicably among themselves.
“Any disputes over the boundary and NCR matters should be settled among the longhouse folk first, this is to ensure the smooth process of the survey work to be carried out by the Lands and Surveys Department.
“It is important that the longhouse folk avoid disputes, as any dispute could hamper and delay the survey work and that is not going to be good for them,” he said.
Billy also called on them to cooperate fully with department surveyors.
“There are some 1.14 million acres of NCR land in Kapit to be surveyed. Hence the NCR land owners must give their fullest cooperation to the Lands and Surveys Department to conduct the survey so that the perimeter survey of all the NCR land could be carried out smoothly in time”.
