SIBU: Surveying work on Native Customary Rights (NCR) lands of about 724 hectares at Ulu Sungai Salim, Menyan, some 30 kms from here under the ‘new initiative’ is expected to begin today (Wednesday) and to be completed in 17 days.
A dialogue session was held between residents of Ulu Sungai Salim and officers from the Land and Survey Department at Rumah Marries Memilas last Monday.
During the dialogue, the residents were told of the land lots and boundaries which would be surveyed and verified.
The Divisional Superintendent of Land and Survey Department, Christina Lau appealed to those involved to give their full cooperation to ensure that the surveying process could be implemented smoothly.
Lau told reporters later that cooperation from the people was vital to avoid any delay in the task.
According to her some 360 hectares of NCR lands in Kanowit and Selangau had been surveyed.
“These NCR areas, which were surveyed last year, were completed within the stipulated time frame. And with the Ulu Sungai Salim NCR lands more NCR lands will be surveyed,” she said.
Meanwhile, a land and survey officer, Awang Mohd Indera Putera Awang Adnan and Surveyor, Bahtiar Sajeli were present to brief the residents of Rumah Marries.
Indera said that the NCR lands which would be surveyed were approved on 24 December last year. It was among 24 other locations throughout the state.
“Last year, 27 NCR areas throughout the state were approved and surveyed before they were gazetted,” he said.
Also present at the function were Temenggong Sir Adrian Ringgau and Pemanca Wilfred Kiroh.
