Nanta thanks voters for BN resounding victory
KAPIT: Deputy Minister for Rural and Regional Development Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is also Kapit MP, once again expressed his thanks to the constituents for voting him in and to ensure a BN resounding victory in the just concluded 13th General election.
On behalf of the BN government, I wish to thank all the voters for giving BN the mandate again to win by a 9,731 vote-majority. I am now the elected representative of the people, not only for those, voted BN but also for those voted the opposition.
The BN government has many good policies and that was why it won 131 out of the 222 parliamentary seals though the opposition claimed that they won the popular vote, said Nanta.
He stressed that in a democratic country as Malaysia, even if a political party wins by one seat, it still commands the mandate to rule.
“The allegation that BN lost the popular vote is unfair. We cannot compare a constituency in the urban area with massive to that of Kapit with 26,000 voters or Hulu Rajang which has only some 22,000 voters.
“Then again, the opposition insisted that these constituencies with small number of voters must combine into one parliamentary. This is very unfair if we look at the size of the two constituencies,” said Nanta.
Nanta said this while commissioning the gravity feed water supply system at Rumah Jang, Nanga Goh. The event, which was Nanta’s first official function after being appointed Deputy Minister, was organised by the Special Welfare Department (JASA) on Friday.
He pointed out the opposition could not accept defeat and claimed that the general election was unfair. Thus, he said, they took to the streets to air their grievances.
“In the next state election, be wise and don’t hand over power to the opposition,” Nanta reminded the folks.
“The opposition’s motive is just to gain power and if you give it to the opposition, you will be at the losing end as only the BN government has the means to deliver your needs,” he said.
Nanta also thanked the Prime Minister who recently announced a RM400 million budget for the Kapit/Song/ Kanowit road project and a RM30 million allocation for the perimeter survey of NCR land this year.
Among those present at the function were political secretary to the Chief Minister. Wilson Nyabong Ijang, Kapit District Officer Elvis Didit and Deputy Walikota of Kapit District Council Jefferson Jamit Unyat.
