Train locals to use GPS, suggests Mauh
LOCAL people can be trained to use Global Positioning System (GPS) to expedite perimeter survey under the Native Customary Rights (NCR) Land New Initiative, suggested Joseph Mauh (BN.Tamin).
He told the august House yesterday that the process of perimeter survey could be speeded up by engaging the local people instead of depending solely on Land and Survey Department.
“I came to understand that the process of perimeter survey in my constituency is quite slow and up to now only two areas at Nanga Tajam are being surveyed.
“Perhaps the state government can consider engaging services of private surveyors but I feel it is better to engage and train local people since they are more familiar with their
own area,” he said when debating the proposed 2013 state budget at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting Wednesday.
He also urged the government to build a Fire and Rescue (Bomba) Station in Selangau as the nearest Bomba station from Selangau is located in Sibu, about 1.5 hours’ journey.
“I would also like to urge the government to accelerate the process of relocàting SK Nanga Selangau,” he said, adding that the new location of the school had been identified.
He explained that the school, which is near to Batang Mukah and Sungai Selangau, was prone to flooding.
