SARIKEI: The Sarawak Government remains committed to expediting the process of surveying and issuing Native Customary Rights (NCR) land titles through various initiatives that are being implemented continuously throughout the state.

Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said that to date, approximately 1.2 million hectares of NCR land have been successfully surveyed from nearly three million hectares of areas identified for surveying.

According to him, the state government has also provided an allocation of RM40 million annually to ensure that the process of surveying and issuing land titles for the people can be expedited.

He said that the implementation not only involves an approach under Section 6, but is also expanded through Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code to ensure that the land involved can be given title in an orderly and legally valid manner.

“The state government is indeed committed to resolving the NCR land issue and this effort did not just start when the election was approaching, but has been long ongoing,” he said.

He said this after attending the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Cheque Presentation Ceremony at the Sarawak Integrated Administration Centre (IAC), on Tuesday.

Commenting further, Datuk Len said that among the main challenges faced in the surveying process was the absence of land claimants during the surveying work, making it difficult to jointly determine the boundaries.

In this regard, he called on the public to cooperate throughout the surveying process to ensure that property matters could be resolved more quickly and smoothly.

At the same time, he said that the state government had also added 367 new staff to strengthen the capabilities of the Land and Survey Department throughout Sarawak.

He also stressed that the NCR issue should not be used as political capital because the government continues to implement consistent resolution efforts in the interests of the people. -UKASnews
