BAU: A total of RM4 million in land compensation has been paid to landowners affected by the Musi–Buso road upgrading project today (Jan 19), a step forward in the implementation of the infrastructure development aimed at improving connectivity and safety in the area.
The first phase compensation was disbursed to about 88 landowners whose properties were acquired to make way for the upgrading works, which include road widening, drainage improvements and enhanced road safety features.
The project is expected to improve accessibility for local communities, reduce travel time and support socio-economic activities along the Musi–Buso corridor.
Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the compensation payment reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that affected landowners are treated fairly and in accordance with established valuation procedures.
He said all payments were made based on assessments conducted by the state Land and Survey Department, in line with existing laws and guidelines.
He said a total of RM11 million compensation will be paid to about 150 landowners affected by the project, adding that the remaining RM7 millions are expected to be disbursed either before Chinese New Year or Hari Raya.
“The payment of RM4 million in compensation under the first phase disbursement demonstrates our responsibility to balance development needs with the rights and welfare of landowners,” he said at the handing over of compensation cheque at Musi Community Hall here today.
The Tasik Biru assemblyman added that the process was carried out transparently to minimise inconvenience to those affected.
He expressed his gratitude to all landowners for their cooperation, where they were even willing to allow the contractor to clear the land acquired before compensation payment was made.
Land clearing works had begun in Dec, with contractors instructed to adhere to project timelines while ensuring safety for road users and nearby residents.
The upgrading project – identified as one of Bau’s key infrastructure priorities – aims to modernise the existing narrow rural roadway, which has long struggled to accommodate increasing traffic from local communities, agricultural zones and expanding development areas around the district.
It is expected to involve extensive improvements and elevation works along the Musi-Buso-Simpang Buso corridor.
The work scope of the proposed road, which will be constructed in accordance with a two-lane single carriageway of R3 standard, will also include two concrete bridges, the widening and strengthening of the roadway, the upgrading of its pavement structure, and improvement to safety features such as drainage systems, road shoulders, road signage and intersections.
The project, which cost about RM73 million, is expected to be completed within 30 months or in May, 2028.
