KUCHING: Team AZAM KW Dragon’s dedication and discipline have paid off as they captured multiple victories at the Sarawak International Dragon Boat Regatta (SIDBR) 2025, marking a triumphant debut for the new team.
The team, competing for the first time at the international regatta, powered their way to victory in both the DB12 and DB20 Premier Open categories.
AZAM KW Dragon A clocked 1:15.426 to win the DB12 Premier Open Grand Final, while their B team topped the Minor Final with 1:17.007.
In the DB20 Premier Open Final, the A team crossed the line first in 1:11.114, with the B team close behind in 1:11.216, securing an impressive one-two finish.
Team manager Datuk Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood attributed the success to the paddlers’ commitment and discipline, calling it the foundation of their triumph.
“Alhamdulillah, praise be to Allah, because we have become champions for both the 20 and 12 categories.
“This is the reflection of our dedication, hard work, and discipline. That’s the recipe for success and glory when it comes to regatta or dragon boat racing,” he told Sarawak Tribune after the race here, today (Oct 26).
Moreover, Awang Zamhari said the team registered a total of 48 paddlers, in line with regulations set by the International Dragon Boat Federation, ensuring a strong and balanced lineup across both race categories.
“Actually this is our first try, participating in a dragon boat race under the Azam KW banner, and this success reflects our commitment and teamwork,” he said.
He added that the team’s next goal is to carry their winning momentum into the upcoming Sarawak Regatta 2025, which will be held next week at the same venue.
“Hopefully, we can go forward and achieve the same success as what we achieved today,” he said.
