Local, international teams to compete at Sri Santubong Open Petanque championship, Landas PSPBK Cup this weekend

KUCHING (Sept 4): The 17th Sri Santubong Open Petanque Doubles Championship and Landas PSPBK Cup 2025 will be held at the Sarawak Petanque Centre in Santubong from Sept 6–7.

The tournament is jointly organised by the Kuching Division Petanque Sports Association (PSPBK), the Land and Survey Department Social Club (Landas), the Land Custody and Development Authority (Pelita) and Lea Sports Centre (LSC).

Tournament coordinator Alfian Bawi told a press conference at Sarawak Plaza yesterday that the event features two categories — Open Doubles and Women’s Doubles.

“The registration fee per team for Open Doubles is RM120 and RM100 for Women’s Doubles category,” he said.

To date, nearly 100 teams have registered for Open Doubles and 55 teams for the Women’s Doubles.

Entries include teams from Indonesia and Thailand; Malaysian states such as Sabah, Perak, Pahang and Terengganu; and several Sarawak divisions including Kuching, Sri Aman, Limbang and Samarahan.

“We also have participation from Unimas (Universiti Malaysia Sarawak), government departments such as the Health Department, the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Armed Forces as well as clubs in Kuching.

“We expect even more participants will come,” he said.

The competition will adopt a double-elimination format in the opening rounds of the main cup, followed by knockout stages.

Teams eliminated early will enter the Sumbangsih Cup, a consolation event.

All matches will follow the International Federation of Petanque and Provençal Game (FIPJP) rules and tournament regulations.

Prize money for the Open Doubles is RM6,000 for champions, RM3,000 for runners-up, RM1,500 for joint third, RM500 each for 5th–8th, and RM200 each for 9th–16th.

For the Women’s Doubles, prizes are RM2,500 (champions), RM1,500 (runners-up), RM800 (joint third), RM200 each for 5th–8th and RM100 each for 9th–16th.

The Sumbangsih Cup offers RM400 to champions, RM300 to runners-up, RM200 for joint third and RM100 each for 5th–8th.
