KUCHING: The Sarawak Land and Survey Department (JTS) has been urged to enhance its services to the public through the adoption of data technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

According to JTS Director Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood, in line with this vision, the upcoming LANDAS Summit 2025, scheduled for Feb 24-26, will highlight AI and the department’s strategic planning towards 2030.

In line with the state government’s digitalisation agenda to ensure the people of Sarawak receive faster, more transparent, and user-friendly services, he believes the challenges of today demand the department to evolve, innovate, and move towards a more efficient and reliable digital service.

“JTS is no longer just an administrative organisation but has become a crucial institution in Sarawak’s development, particularly in ensuring efficient land management and administration, well-planned infrastructure development, and the continued well-being of the people,” he said.

He said this during the department’s 107th Anniversary Thanksgiving Ceremony and the 2025 Chinese New Year celebration at Menara Pelita, Petra Jaya here recently.

He explained that in today’s data-driven world, decisions must be made based on accurate, fast, and reliable information.

He urged the department to be committed to meeting these challenges by implementing modern service systems by accelerating the digitisation of work processes and actively introduced them through the Innovative and Creative Group (KIK) platform.

“We also must improve data integration among the department’s branches and units to reduce the risk of data overlap and contradictions as well as strengthen an innovation-driven work culture by training officers and staff in data analysis skills and adopting new technologies to enhance service delivery effectiveness,” he said.

Addressing JTS employees, he acknowledged that the success of the department’s 107-year journey is not the achievement of individuals but a collective effort — the result of the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of JTS employees past and present.

“Change is no longer an option but a necessity, and I urge all department members to continue your commitment to enhancing public service through innovation, technology, and best work practices,” said Awang Zamhari.
