Sarawak civil service out to make nation proud at Sri Lanka innovation event

KUCHING (Nov 4): The Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) will be participating in the International Convention on Quality Control Circles 2024 (ICQCC) in Sri Lanka, next week.

A total of four Innovative and Creative Groups (KIK) who are winners of the Sarawak Civil Service Innovation Convention Awards (SCSICA) 2023 will represent the country at ICQCC 2024.

Among them are the LANDS TAHAI Q Group from the Land and Survey Department of Limbang Division, the EAGLE Group from Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), IPOK Group from Mukah Resident’s Office, and the TECHSKAP Group from Bintulu Development Authority.

Sarawak Transformation and Innovation Unit (STIU) director Superi Awang Said will lead the SCS delegation, comprising 35 officers, for the ICQCC, which will be running from Nov 11 to 14.

According to him, the ICQCC is an annual event that brings together innovation practitioners from around the world to compete and share ideas, experiences and expertise in an effort to improve productivity.

Superi will also lead another Sarawak delegation for an innovation benchmark visit to Japan, to be taking place this Dec 1 to 6.

The delegation will be accompanied by a total of 19 officers as an appreciation for the dedication and hard work of the winners from SCS during the ICQCC 2022 programme in Jakarta, Indonesia.

They are SIRIUS PRIME Group from Miri City Council (MCC) which had successfully brought home The Prime Gold Award 2022, and the SASSOKU TECH and INNOTECH Q9 groups from the Department of Land and Survey, Kuching Division and Bintulu Division, which each won a Gold Award in the 2022 convention.

“This visit aims to give exposure to participants on the importance of innovation and improving the quality of public sector delivery through workshops, simulations, and practical training that will be conducted by experts from Japan

“Our participation in ICQCC 2024 in Sri Lanka and this benchmark visit to Japan not only serve as opportunities to exchange views with international experts, but also strengthen our efforts towards transformation and innovation in the Sarawak civil service.

“I hope this delegation could bring home valuable knowledge and inspiration to be applied in improving the quality of service delivery to the people,” he said in a brief remark, prior top presenting the Sarawak flag to the delegation at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki performed the symbolic handing-over of the flag to Superi.
