78 Contingents Join Parade & Grand Rally For Sarawak Governor's Birthday

KUCHING: In celebration of the Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s birthday, the Parade and Grand Rally Ceremony held at Padang Merdeka in Kuching saw the participation of 78 contingents, symbolising his 78th birthday.

Over 3,000 participants from ministries, departments, agencies, statutory bodies, associations, organisations, and the private sector took part in the event, which commenced as early as 7 a.m.

Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi, accompanied by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari, conducted an inspection of the parade in a special vehicle.

The ceremony featured birthday speeches and hopes for his leadership, along with cultural performances and dances.

The highlight of the event was the cake-cutting ceremony by Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah, as the contingents cheered with cries of "Dirgahayu".

A video presentation titled 'Aspirations of the People' was also shown to Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi, showcasing birthday wishes and hopes for his tenure as the Governor of Sarawak.

The event included cultural performances and songs by renowned Sarawakian singers Bob Yusof and Dayang Nurfaizah.

The closing of the ceremony saw the presentation of awards to the best-performing contingents, officiated by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu, and Sarawak Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

The overall champion title went to the Sarawak Land and Survey Department contingent, who took home a cash prize of RM2,000.

In addition, for each category, the Sarawak Land and Survey Department once again secured first place in the Enforcement Contingent category. The Associations and Ethnic Contingent category was won by Amanat Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak.

The Non-Governmental Organisations/Private Sector Contingent category was won by Bintulu Development Authority, while the Ministry Contingent category was claimed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development. The Administrative Office Contingent category was won by the Bintulu Divisional Administration Office.

All winners received cash prizes of RM3,000 along with trophies.

Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premiers, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, along with the Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development and Minister-in-Charge, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak Cabinet Ministers, Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Ministers, and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
