KUCHING: The Sarawak government is about to receive a hydrogen car from leading vehicle manufacturer BMW.

The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said, this clearly shows that more and more companies are starting to shift towards clean energy sources, especially hydrogen.

“They (BMW) want to give this BMW 5 Series car model to Putrajaya, but they don’t have hydrogen.

“Therefore, they will send the car to Kuching and give it to us in Kuching who use it.

“This shows that more and more companies are starting to switch to hydrogen energy, because hydrogen is the cleanest energy,” he said.

He said this while speaking at the Closing Ceremony of the Land and Survey Department (LANDAS) Summit 2024 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Saturday.

Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari meanwhile stressed that Sarawak needs to take advantage of its strength in energy production to advance the state’s economy.

He said, with this strength, it can differentiate Sarawak from other states to develop its own economy as well as Malaysia.

“In my view, we must know our strengths, so that we can move forward and have those strengths ourselves. Once we analyze our strengths, then we focus on those strengths.

“So for Malaysia to grow, Sarawak will continue to focus on energy. Other states may have their own strengths, and our strength is energy, so we focus on this,” he said.

In the meantime, he has approved a fund of RM5 million to LANDAS for the purpose of training and human capital development.

At the ceremony, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari also presented the LANDAS victory trophy in the International Convention on Quality Control Circle (ICQCC) 2023 which was held in Beijing, China.

In addition, he along with other dignitaries had the opportunity to complete the symbolic cutting of the cake in conjunction with the 106th anniversary of LANDAS.

Also present during the event were Sarawak Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datu Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel and Sarawak Land and Survey Department Director Datu Abdullah Julaihi. – UKASnews
