KAPIT: A total of 479ha of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land in Sungai Majau, Mujong-Baleh has been issued individual titles under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code.

Land and Survey Department Kapit superintendent Sagu Unting said the land was surveyed under the government’s NCR New Initiative, where 4,030ha of NCR land in the area has been surveyed under Section 6.

“In 2019, the government started individual land title survey under the New Initiative Section 18 survey. Until today, Oct 23, 479ha have been issued 123 individual land titles to 65 persons from three longhouses,” he told thesundaypost after the presentation of individual titles to NCR landowners by Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing.

“The balance of the 4,030ha — 3,551ha — the Land and Survey Department Kapit will continue to survey till completed and will issue individual land titles through Section 18 Individual Land Titles Survey and will issue the title to the rightful claimants of the NCR land.”

Sagu said for Kapit Division 102,937.5ha have been perimeter surveyed under the government’s NCR New Initiative through Section 6.

He explained that once issued title under Section 18, the land is for perpetuity.

“Land is an important asset. Don’t sell your land for quick gains. Please keep the land title properly because that is the document to prove the legal ownership of the land. My advice is don’t listen to outsiders lies about Section 6 and Section 18 surveys.

“If you have any doubt please come to the Land and Survey office and we will explain to clear up the baseless allegations,” he added.

In his speech, Masing stressed the government is committed to protect the rights of natives.

“I thank the landowners from Rumah Lugat, Rumah Pioh, and Rumah Agan for being supportive and cooperative with the Land and Survey Kapit to ensure the smooth process of the survey works. Now you are getting the individual
land titles. From Section 6 Perimeter Survey to identify the boundary, followed by the Section 18 Individual Land Title Survey and now the land titles issued to you.

“This proves the commitment and sincere efforts of the government to protect the rights of the NCR claimants. Land title is the certificate to prove the ownership. With the land title in hand, no one without your permission would be able to encroach into your hand,” he said.
